How this site makes money, in plain terms
Chip Compass Works runs on affiliate commission, not subscriptions. Here's exactly what that means and where it does — and doesn't — touch our content.
What "affiliate-funded" means here
When you open an account with an operator after clicking a link on Chip Compass Works, that operator may pay us a commission. This is how most independent comparison and review publishers cover their costs, and it's the same model used across travel, finance and product-review sites well beyond gambling. It costs you nothing extra — the commission comes from the operator's own marketing budget, not from your deposit or your play.
How the links are built
Each "Visit" button on our operator cards points to that operator's real website with a tracking parameter attached — things like ?btag=, &affid= or &clickid= followed by a code identifying Chip Compass Works as the referrer. There's no redirect through an unrelated domain and no disguised destination: the link goes where it says it goes.
Where commission does and doesn't influence us
Commission determines whether we earn anything from a given operator being listed — it does not determine an operator's score, its position on the page, or the tone of its written profile. Our methodology is fixed before we look at commercial terms, and an operator with a stronger commercial arrangement gets exactly the same scrutiny as one with a weaker one. If that sounds like something every affiliate site claims, it is — we'd simply rather state it directly than leave it implied.
Why we still show the ads label
You'll notice "Ad" markers next to welcome offers and commercial call-to-action buttons throughout the site. UK advertising standards expect commercial relationships to be clearly signposted, and we think that's a reasonable baseline regardless of what's legally required — readers should be able to tell at a glance which parts of the page are editorial and which are commercial, even if the two sit close together.
Operators that don't pay us
If an operator doesn't have an affiliate arrangement with us, we either exclude it from comparison or, where we do cover it, label the coverage clearly as non-commercial. We don't currently include any operator on this basis, but the principle stands regardless of who's listed.
